Fat Beet Farm connects to a saltwater canal that flows directly from beautiful Tampa Bay. Although we love having access to such a diverse landscape, saltwater intrusion causes many farming challenges. We cannot collect freshwater from wells, and city water is full of chemicals that we do not want to feed our plants or fish. For these reasons, rain collection is absolutely essential in all of our farming activities.
Water conservation is the most important sustainability effort that we’ve tackled so far. We currently have 12,000 gallons of space in our tanks, and we re-use our rain water wherever we can.
