Fat Beet Farm’s Aquaponic system grows a variety of gorgeous lettuces without any chemical fertilizers. We raise fish, filter out their waste, and convert it into nutrients that are easily absorbed by the lettuce roots. In addition to sustainably providing nutrients to the plants, we only use rain water in our fishtanks and grow beds.
In our 3,000 sq. ft. grow house, we are able to harvest 512 heads or lettuce per week. We could double this number in the next few years if we added more grow beds in the available vertical space! For this reason, we believe that aquaponics is a super-efficient solution to many of Florida’s farming challenges.
